PhD Studentship – Investigating the Sustainability of Nuclear Power

Project details:
The Tyndall Centre for Climate Change Research is offering a PhD studentship on a cutting edge project investigating climate change and the UK’s electricity system, with a particular focus on the potential role of nuclear power. The PhD candidate will be part of the SPRING consortium, a £2.5 million programme of research funded by the EPSRC and ESRC and led by the University of Manchester.

The successful candidate will build on existing Tyndall energy futures research to develop a new and comprehensive suite of energy scenarios for a carbon constrained UK. These scenarios will focus on the demand and supply of electricity within a wider context of energy use, including transport. Working closely with researchers from both Tyndall and SPRING the candidate will analyse the scenarios in terms of their implications for carbon emissions and broader sustainability.
